Chivakanenyama Secondary School: A Story of Firsts

For years, Chivakanenyama Secondary School faced challenges that limited the dreams of its learners. Without a national exam center, students had to travel long distances to sit for their examinations — a barrier that led to low participation, high dropout rates, and limited progression to higher education. The school also lacked science facilities, making it impossible to offer STEM subjects or imagine advanced-level classes.

Everything changed when TTI partnered with the school.

Through our sustainable irrigation garden project, the school began generating its own income — a breakthrough that allowed leadership to renovate structures, invest in facilities, and create a pathway to quality learning. Alongside this, TTI supported the introduction of science subjects and the establishment of a fully equipped science laboratory.

The results have been historic.

Chivakanenyama Secondary is now a registered national exam center, and for the first time ever, learners wrote their secondary school national exams right on their own school. The newly established science lab opened doors that were once unimaginable:

·        48 learners sat for science examinations for the first time in the school’s history

·        The school has now introduced Advanced Level classes, further expanding opportunities for rural students

This transformation is more than infrastructure — it is dignity restored, dreams revived, and a community empowered.

Chivakanenyama now stands as a model of what becomes possible when schools are supported to regenerate from within. It is proof that with the right investment, rural learners can thrive, excel, and shape their own futures.
